A Faithful Leader

by Mike Van Hoozer

The word faithful is defined as: “1. Having or full of faith; 2. Consistent with truth: a faithful reproduction of the portrait.”  A faithful leader possesses the qualities of truth and faith.  You can trust a faithful leader, because their lives exhibit truth in everything they say and do.  They are reliable, real, and authentic – “a faithful reproduction of the portrait.”

My Grandmother passed away in April after 94 wonderful years.  She lived a full and rich life, and was a faithful leader whose words and deeds matched.  She was “a faithful reproduction of the portrait.”  What does this statement mean?  What does it mean to be “a faithful reproduction of the portrait?”  The analogy is that of an artist who creates a beautiful portrait of a person and then sits back and watches the person come to life.  God created a beautiful portrait of my Grandmother, and she was absolutely faithful to connect with the calling of her life.  She unleashed all of who she was in everything she did.

In your life, I hope and pray that you are consistently connecting with your calling every day.  After examining her life, it has made me even more passionate about making the most of every moment.  John Wooden, the great basketball coach and leader at UCLA, said it best when he uttered this challenge: “Make each day your masterpiece.”  You cannot do anything about the past.  The future is only impacted by what you do today, so make each day your masterpiece.  Discover your purpose and pursue it for a lifetime!  Be faithful to the mission you have been given!
