A Night to Remember

The evening began with a stool, Sam Morrow and his guitar, and 600 onlookers in an intimate and reverent setting. Sam set the tone early for what would be an extraordinary night. As Grammy and Dove-nominated Leeland began to play their first note, the power blew and the lights went out. Most people thought it was part of the show. It was not. Undeterred by this nuisance and without missing a beat, Leeland pulled an end-around and sang a different song a capella. As the audience joined in, the power and lights returned, and they rejoined the original set list for the night.

It was a very special evening with inspiration through song and the spoken word. Leeland concluded their first set with a song entitled “Tears of the Saints,” which speaks of the urgency of the spiritual needs of all people. This song provided an awesome launching point for my talk “What Are You Doing Here?” – a question we must all come to grips with at some point in our life. I wrapped up my portion by lighting the candles on an elegantly decorated table – a symbol of the greatest invitation we will ever receive in our lives. Leeland returned to the piano and played instrumentally and then launched into “Carried to the Table,” a wonderful song that paints a portrait of the most beautiful love we will ever receive. The rest of the band joined their lead singer on the stage and completed the second set, inspiring many students and some parents to jump to new heights.

Our prayer is that it was not just a fun event but the beginning of a call to action for the people who shared the night with us and the communities they will impact!
