The Question?
"What is the most important thing I can do in this moment?"

Your answer to this question could be the most important response you will ever make. I often ask myself this very question…

  • When I first get up in the morning.
  • When I define my priorities for the day.
  • When I need to communicate feedback to someone at work.
  • When I am faced with the decision of whether to read a book to my two youngest boys or to rush to go back downstairs and watch the game.
  • When I communicate with my wife.

We can choose to be purposeful about each moment, or let the moments pass us by on purpose. Asking the question above can help us gain clarity and focus during the moments in our lives when we need to make the right decision. Waving the moment aside like a matador is not how we were meant to live our lives. Moments have meaning, but do the moments in our lives really mean something to us and to the people we share them with?

The next time you are faced with a decision about how to “spend,” or better said, “invest” your time, take a moment and ask yourself the question, “What is the most important thing I can do in this moment?” You’ll be so glad you did, and so will the most important people in your life.
